We will be learning about soil. Observable properties and measurable properties. Quick check and quiz by the end of the week. Social Studies-Mr.Price, Ms. LT Social Studies will continue to work on the Cold War this week. There will be a brief 12-15 question quiz based on our class notes from 7-5.1 & 7-5.2 on Tuesday. Math-Ms.Dillingham, Ms. Jensen Advanced is working on Unit Rates and solving Proportions. There will be a quiz on Friday. GL is working on solving Inequalities and we are having a test on Thursday. Dillingham’s Advanced Math Class: This week we will be using proportions to find the percent of discounts, taxes, tips, increases, and decreases. This will end our unit on Ratios and Proportions. There will be a Ratios and Proportions Unit Test next Tuesday, March 14th. Dillingham’s Math Classes: There will be an Equations and Inequalities Test on Thursday of this week. English-Ms. Sessions and Ms. Nettles Ms. Nettles' grade level class will be wrapping up their mini-unit on drama, and beginning to work on pre-writing and planning essays. Ms. Nettles' advanced class will be finishing their rough drafts of their universal theme essays. Ms. Sessions' grade level classes will finish their poetry projects and begin a mini-unit on drama. Advanced will finish their rough drafts of their essays on universal themes. There will be a grammar quiz this Friday in all ELA classes.

Social Studies-Mr. Price, Ms. LT
Social Studies will test on WWII and the Holocaust this Wednesday. Students have been given notes and study guides over the last two weeks, electronic copies can be found in Canvas. Please discuss the importance of being prepared for school with your student. I have gone through several hundred pencils, over a thousand sheets of notebook paper, and various other school supplies in the last couple of months. I have also had too many students show up to class without their notes. Math-Ms. Dillingham, Ms. Jensen Ms. Jensen's class: Advanced: Ratios and Proportional Relationships with a focus on the constant of proportionality; quiz on Friday Grade Level: Solving Multi-Step Equations; quiz on Thursday Ms. Dillingham's class: Advanced: Students will begin solving proportions on Monday. There will be a quiz on solving proportions on Wednesday. We will end the week with determining percents of numbers using proportions. Grade Level: Students will continue to solve equations On Monday and Tuesday. There will be a quiz on solving one step, two step, and multi step equations on Wednesday. We will end the week solving and graphing inequalities. Science-Mr. Seabold We will be starting our ecology unit this week. Students should read over the last two days' notes, each day for homework. No tests or quizzes this week. English-Ms. Nettles, Ms. Sessions Advanced: Students will be working on analyzing poetry and comparing common themes across texts. This will culminate in an essay on universal themes in stories. Grade level: Students will be working in their Close Readers to analyze poetry and identifying themes in texts. Science (Mr. Seabold)
We will be finishing up our genetics unit with a test this Thursday. Social Studies (Mr. Price, Ms. LT) Since the subject matters are so closely related, and one unit is much smaller than the other, social studies has elected to combine 7-4.5 (WWII) and 7-4.6 (Holocaust) into one test. We will not test on WWII this Friday, but we will test on WWII AND the Holocaust next Wednesday (3/1). Math (Ms. Dillingham) Ms. Dillingham's Advanced Math Class: Students began the unit on ratios and proportions last week. We will have a quiz this Thursday on proportional relationships and finding the constant of proportionality. Ms. Dillingham's Math Classes: Students will start the equations and inequalities unit this week. There are not any assessments this week. There will be a quiz early next week. Math (Ms. Jensen) ADV: review indentifying slope from graphs, tables, and equations; quiz on Wednesday Begin working on identifying the y-intercept from graphs, tables, and equations. Possible quiz on Friday Grade Level: Pre-assessment on solving one and two step equations in order to determine student groupings for the remainder of the week. Social Studies (Mr. Price) Social studies is working on Communism/socialism/Fascism/ Nazism this week and we will have a short quiz this Thursday that will cover the basics of Communism and Socialism. All students have a complete set of notes and will be completing a graphic organizer this week that will help them prepare. Please check your student's grades on Canvas. ELA (Mrs. Nettles and Ms. Sessions) In Mrs. Nettles' class students will be close reading informational texts from Upfront magazine. In Ms. Sessions' class students will be close reading and annotating an article from our close reader. Students will end the week this week with a major project grade creating a stained glass window by graphing equations in slope-intercept form. Grade Level: Students will begin the week with a major project grade using unit rate to determine what stores have better buys on specific products. Students will begin word problems on a Wednesday to help them learn how to set up proportions and solve them. Science (Mr. Seabold) - This week in science we will be learning about the circulatory system and having a quick check by Thursday. ELA (Mrs. Nettles and Ms. Sessions) - Both grade level and advanced ELA classes are working on analyzing historical events by reading both informational text and literary text dealing with the events. Students will compare and contrast a literary depiction of a time, place or character to a historical account of the same period to understand how authors use or alter history for rhetorical effect. (Standard 7-RL.7.2) Grade level students will be reading both literary texts and informational texts describing the Triangle Fire, and advanced students will be reading selections related to the Underground Railroad and the Civil War. ELA (Mrs. Grabb) - This week we will begin independent reading on a weekly basis. Students will work on creating book talks from their independent reading and present those in class. Students will also work on learning argumentative writing techniques using text evidence to support their arguments. This week we will be reviewing and testing the four human body systems. ELA (Mrs. Nettles and Ms. Sessions) - We’re wrapping up Poetry by writing our own original pieces. We have our common formative assessment on reading literature on Monday. Then, we will begin working on writing expository essays. We will read and analyze informational articles, and use the information to write outlines, rough drafts, and final copies. ELA (Mrs. Grabb) - We are finishing our essay that we have been working on, and we are continuing to work on our Daily Grammar. Math (Ms. Dillingham) - Advanced: Simplify expressions containing integer exponents. Multiply and divide with exponents and raise powers to a power. Simplify powers with zero and negative exponents. Express numbers in scientific notation and standard form.
